Arabian Scops-Owl
Otus pamelae
A small, compact, gray-brown owl with small ear tufts. Found in woodland, usually in arid and hilly areas. Most often detected by voice: a frog-like “prreeeuup” that is repeated every 5–8 seconds, sometimes for long periods. Very similar to Eurasian and Pallid Scops-Owls. Darker overall than Pallid Scops-Owl, with thicker streaking and cross-barring on the underparts; usually distinguished by range. Best distinguished from Eurasian Scops-Owl by voice, though usually shows a paler face and eyebrows.

White-quilled Rock-Pigeon
Petrophassa albipennis
Large rusty brown pigeon with faint pale speckles on its plumage. In flight shows white wing panels, and flies with a loud clattering of wings. Found only on the sandstone areas of the Kimberley and Ord-Victoria regions. Often roosts on high rocky cliffs or on top of sandstone towers; comes down to the sandy ground in the early morning and evening.

Yellow-backed Oriole
Icterus chrysater
Attractive black-and-yellow oriole. Mainly in pine-oak forest of highlands, but also in humid tropical lowlands of Yucatan Peninsula. Often in flowering trees with other species of orioles. Both sexes have a yellow head and body with a small black mask and throat patch, black wings and tail. Bill is straight and pointed. Richly whistled and slightly halting song carries well.
