Black-collared Hawk
Busarellus nigricollis
Attractive chunky hawk of marshes and wetlands. Usually seen perched quietly near water, waiting to swoop down and snatch fish or frogs. Adult is distinctive, with mostly orange plumage and a whitish head (black collar is often hard to see). Immature is brownish overall, duller than the adult, but with a similar pattern. Note rather pale, dull pinkish legs and feet (yellow or orange on most other hawks). In flight looks very broad winged and short tailed.

Yellow-rumped Munia
Lonchura flaviprymna
Small finchlike bird with brown wings, pale bill, and yellowish rump. Found in areas with tall grass, often in flocks beside rivers or floodplains, sometimes mixed with other seed-eating species. Pale gray head contrasts with dark brown back and wings, underparts pale buff, and rump and tail dark yellowish tone. Juvenile very plain, easily confused with juvenile Chestnut-breasted (which has less uniform upperparts) or Pictorella Munia (which has shadow pattern of dark ear coverts, recalling adult’s).

Black-capped Antwren
Herpsilochmus atricapillus
Small, long-tailed antwren of the middle to upper levels of woodlands and dry forests. Males are gray with a contrasting black cap and eyebrow. The tail is black and white-tipped and the wings are black with white bars. In females note the cinnamon forehead, gray back and buff belly. The song is loud and usually given as a duet.

Chiribiquete Emerald
Chlorostilbon olivaresi
Poorly known hummingbird found only in the remote Chiribiquete Mountains in southeastern Colombia, far from the Andes. Male is iridescent green with a bluish tail. Female has pale underparts, black mask, and white stripe behind the eye. Very similar to the widespread Blue-tailed Emerald, but larger and longer billed. Inhabits scrubby areas in the higher parts of the mountains, and avoids dense forest.
