Madagascar Spinetail
Zoonavena grandidieri
Small, uniformly gray swift. With a very good view, pale rump and tiny spines on tail can be seen. Flies rigidly with wings pushed forwards. Seen in flight over and adjacent to all types of forest. On Madagascar, often nests and roosts in cavities of baobab trees. Similar in size and shape to Little Swift, but doesn’t show a bold white band on the rump, and has weaker flight. Similar in size to Malagasy Palm Swift, but has a much shorter square tail. Smaller and shorter-tailed than Madagascar Swift, with much weaker flight.

Chico's Tyrannulet
Zimmerius chicomendesi
Recently-described flycatcher of short-stature Amazonian white sand forests. Has green-olive upperparts and yellow underparts. Note the white eyes. Predominantly forages for mistletoe in the canopy and subcanopy and rarely accompanies mixed-species flocks. The call is typically a double “tweep-tweep.”
Spectacled Barwing

The only barwing in its range which combines an unmarked face and pale underparts with a bold white eyering. Found in montane forests and adjacent scrubby areas. Forages in pairs and small flocks, usually rustling about in dense vegetation. Occasionally will emerge out onto an exposed branch, from which the bird may give several plaintive mewling notes.
Patagonian Yellow-Finch
Sicalis lebruni
Fairly common to uncommon, but often rather local in Patagonian steppe and grassland, often with nearby stony areas and low banks or bluffs. Found in pairs or flocks, and like other yellow-finches feeds mainly on the ground. Both sexes rather drab, but distinctive in range (no overlap with other species of yellow-finches). Yellow on male strongest on throat; female can appear drab and colorless, with yellow wash on belly often hard to see.
