Green Warbler

Very local but fairly common in highland marshes of central Mexico; endemic. Favors extensive reed beds bordering lakes and adjacent bushes near water. Male is distinctive, with black mask blending into dark greenish upperparts (lacks pale border to mask of Common Yellowthroat, which occurs in same areas); also note extensively yellow underparts and dark legs. Female is darker overall than female Common Yellowthroat, with dark (not pinkish) legs. Voice subtly distinctive.

Large, plump robin of montane rainforest. Both sexes olive brown above, with gray crown and breast, stark white throat, and white wing patch, prominent in flight. Upright stance, large size, intricate plumage, and pale pink legs distinctive. Usually feeds on or near the ground in rainforest of far northern Queensland.

Boldly patterned sparrow of rainforest understory. Wings and back bright green; head black with white streaks over eye and down center of crown, and contrasting white throat. Male light gray below with black patches on sides of breast, or complete black breast band; female similar but underparts with buffy wash, and lacks black on breast. Unlikely to be confused with any other species in its range. Found in patches of denser understory within mature rainforest, along streams, in ravines, and in tree fall gaps. Frequently joins understory mixed species flocks, where it can be hard to detect as it scurries around the forest floor. Song and calls are very high pitched.
