Gold-fronted Fulvetta
Schoeniparus variegaticeps
Small white-faced bird with a blotchy black cheek patch, a golden forehead, and black-and-yellow paneling on the wings. Passingly similar to Rufous-winged Fulvetta, which has a different facial pattern, a rich brick-red crown, and orange (not black-and-white) wing panels. Found at low and middle levels in hill and montane forest. Forages in pairs, agilely fluttering around and climbing up and down trunks and branches. Vocalizations poorly known and infrequently heard; chatters when alarmed.

Three-toed Jacamar
Jacamaralcyon tridactyla
Its small head, very long, straight bill, and long tail give it a distinctive silhouette. Mostly dark brown above with a streaky crown and whitish belly. Usually perches upright on prominent perches in the top of trees at the forest edge or in riparian forests where they sally out to catch insects.
Black-billed Thrush
Turdus ignobilis
A drab thrush, common in open habitats and woodlands in the lowlands but also wanders up into Andean foothills. Nondescript grayish-brown with a pale whitish belly. Note indistinct streaking on throat; some populations also show a white patch on chest. Sexes similar. Usually seen singly or in pairs. Conspicuous. Song is a typical thrushlike series of musical phrases.
Mussau Flycatcher
Myiagra hebetior
Male is entirely glossy black with a slightly erect crest. Female red on the back and pale whitish buff below, with a bicolored head: pale throat and head black to below the eye. On New Britain, female is dusky gray below and on the throat. Prefers primary forest and undisturbed second growth. Song is a series of loud, piercing whistles. Call is a buzzing nasal churr.
