Whiskered Yuhina
Yuhina flavicollis
Distinguished-looking small songbird with a brown mohawk of a crest. Brown above and white below with an orange nape and a small black mustache stripe. Slender white eye crescents give it a “spectacled” appearance on top of a whiskered one. Like other yuhinas, a very social bird, often seen foraging in the lower and middle levels of hilly broadleaf forests, sometimes with other species. Calls are usually an explosive pair or triad of notes that can be likened to “pee-bee!” or “pee-ah-bee!”

White-browed Robin
Poecilodryas superciliosa
Small round songbird of heavy vegetation along creeks and thick wet forest in coastal northeastern Australia. Grayish brown above, white below, with white supercilium, dark ear coverts, and white markings in wing and tail. Usually carries tail cocked upright. Compare Buff-sided Robin, which has orangish flanks and undertail (and note range). Calls include an electrifying rapid three-note "zap-zap-zap," as well as a multi-note whistled phrase.

Eastern Yellow-billed Barbet
Trachylaemus purpuratus
A large brightly colored barbet of forests and forest edges. Distinctive with its bright yellow bill and eye ring, dark head, back, and tail, and bright yellow belly with dark patches along the sides. Found in rainforest and lower montane forest, usually in the understory, and especially in treefall gaps, and along forest edges. Voice consists of a low “oop” or “op-oop” given in slow succession, sometimes for several minutes.

Black-fronted Dotterel
Thinornis melanops
Small plover with streaked upperparts, strong white eyebrow, and a heavy black line through the eye. Note red eyering. Adult has distinctive black V on chest. Very common around freshwater wetlands.
