Tawny Straightbill
Timeliopsis griseigula
A rare, medium-sized honeyeater of lowland forests. Warm-brown above, orange-brown below, pinkish legs, a pale reddish eye and a dagger-shaped bill. Searches dead leaves for insects in mixed-species flocks. Similar in color and size to some shrikethrushes, and also Plain Honeyeater, but Tawny Straightbill has a thinner, sharper bill and a reddish eye. Song, a descending series of upslurred whistles. Call, a “whip!” note.

Yungas Sparrow
Rhynchospiza dabbenei
Attractive sparrow found along the western edge of the Andes in northwestern Argentina, barely reaching over the border into Bolivia. Note the chestnut head stripes, dark smudge between eye and bill, and black and white mustache. Similar to Chaco Sparrow, with which it was formerly lumped as Stripe-capped Sparrow, but is larger with more extensive black on the face, rustier wings, and a different voice. Inhabits open, grassy habitats with scattered trees and low scrub. Song is a slow series of wheezy chirps.
Short-billed Canastero
Asthenes baeri
Medium-sized, rather nondescript bird, plain dull brown with a tail that is usually held cocked. Note the orange throat patch. Inhabits arid areas with scrub and woodlands, where it forages both in trees and on the ground. The song is a high nasal trill. The similar Sharp-billed Canastero has a longer bill and tail and an indistinct eyebrow.
Red-and-white Spinetail
Certhiaxis mustelinus
Strikingly bicolored spinetail, bright rusty above and white below. Note the dusky lores. Found in riverine marshes. The song is a loud rattle: “tch-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t.”. The similar Yellow-chinned Spinetail has a pale eyebrow and a yellow chin and lacks the dusky lores; its song is similar but drier.
