Gray-capped Pygmy Woodpecker
Yungipicus canicapillus
A diminutive woodpecker of mixed deciduous forests and gardens, from sea level into mountains. Blackish above, pale with black streaking and buffy-gray wash below. Male's tiny red nape mark is often invisible. Appearance varies across wide range; namesake gray cap fairly limited in north and east of range. Most commonly heard calls a weak “wik” and fussy-sounding, descending rattle.

White-browed Triller
Lalage moesta
A medium-sized bird of lowland wooded habitats, including mangroves, on Tanimbar Island where the only triller. White underparts, black upperparts with short, white eyebrow, 2 white wing-bars and other white-edged wing feathers. Loetoe Monarch has a white belly and black wing with a white patch, but a very different head pattern, with black throat and white cheek. Call, a sharp, nasal “jek!”.

Whiskered Treeswift
Hemiprocne comata
Elongated white “whiskers” and brows give this elegant species the appearance of a wise old man. Long-tailed and long-winged, like a cross between a swift and a swallow. Glossy brownish-olive with glossy blue-black wings and head. Male has chestnut ear patches, while the female has bluish ones. Sallies from exposed perches in the canopy and along clearings in lowland and foothill wet forests. Gives squeaky, excited-sounding calls and high-pitched chattering.

Monk Parakeet
Myiopsitta monachus
Medium-sized parakeet, bright lime green above with whitish face and chest, pinkish bill, and blue wingtips. Native to South America, where it is found in various open habitats, especially rural agricultural areas and towns. In introduced range, can be found locally in large cities. Builds enormous stick nests, often on large structures like cell phone towers and power poles; "Cliff Parakeet" of arid southcentral Bolivia manages to build, quite impressively, on sheer cliffs. Listen for its harsh, screeching voice.
