Sierra Madre Ground-Warbler
Robsonius thompsoni
A medium-sized bird of the forest floor from the lowlands to low elevations in the mountains in northeastern Luzon. Fairly stout, with a pale lower bill, long legs, and large feet. Pale below, with a grayish, faintly scaled chest and brown under the base of the tail. Note rufous face and forehead with pale bare skin in front of the eye, brown upperparts with two dotted white wingbars, and chestnut flight feathers. Note the white throat with black speckling below and a thin black moustache stripe. Unmistakable. Song consists of a very high-pitched “tseeee-sip tsee-wee!”

Purus Jacamar
Galbalcyrhynchus purusianus
Distinctive dark jacamar with a heavy bill and short tail. Deep chocolate brown, with a pinkish bill and reddish skin around the eye. Sexes similar. Forages in pairs and groups in trees around marshes, including around the edges of oxbow lakes. Its call is a piercing whistled “PEER”; Paradise Jacamar has a similar but weaker call.

Philippine Drongo-Cuckoo
Surniculus velutinus
A slender, medium-sized bird of lowland and foothill forest. Entirely black with glossiness in the wing and in the slightly flared tail. Forages for insects in the forest canopy. Resembles Balicassiao and Hair-crested Drongos, but smaller, with a thinner bill and no fork in the tail. Song is a steadily rising series of whistled notes.

Long-toed Lapwing
Vanellus crassirostris
Large, long-legged upland shorebird. Boldly marked with a white face and throat framed by a black nape and breast band. In the southern part of the range, the wing is mostly white with a black patch at the tip; in the north, the wing is half black and half white. Usually found singly or in pairs. Core habitat is wetlands with floating vegetation, but can sometimes be found in other wetland habitats like mudflats. The call is a long, dry series of high-pitched ticking notes. A distinctive species that is unlikely to be confused.
