Jouanin's Petrel
Bulweria fallax
An all-dark, pigeon-sized petrel. Very bulky, with broad wings and a heavy, dark bill. Similar to Bulwer’s Petrel, but Jouanin’s appears heavier overall with a shorter tail, a larger bill, and no white on the wings. Strong flier, gliding often with occasional wingbeats, and staying close to the water.

Olive-winged Bulbul
Pycnonotus plumosus
Large plain bulbul of lowland forests, edges, and mangroves. Dull brown with gray-streaked ear coverts, red eyes, and olive-green panels on the wings. Other similar large brown bulbuls such as Red-eyed and Cream-vented can also have olive tones in the wings, but less prominently. Song is a simple series of bubbly warbling interspersed with sharper notes.

Scarlet-rumped Tanager
Ramphocelus passerinii
Fairly common in humid tropical lowlands. Favors evergreen forest edges, plantations, and verdant second growth, such as areas along roadsides. Forages mainly at low to middle levels often in fairly noisy small groups. Male is unmistakable if seen clearly: velvety black with a blinding scarlet rump. Female is very different: note distinctive bluish-white bill, tawny rump, and grayish head. Formerly known as Cherrie's Tanager and Passerini's Tanager.

Seychelles Sunbird
Cinnyris dussumieri
A drab brown sunbird with a long downcurved bill. Breeding male has a bib of iridescent blue feathers. Tufts at the shoulders, often hidden, can be yellow, orange, or red. Female and non-breeding male are very plain with a bit of darker spotting on the breast. Common in most habitats on the granitic Seychelles islands, including gardens, scrub, woodland, and forest. Seychelles Warbler and Seychelles White-eye are also drab, but Seychelles Sunbird is always easily identified by its long curved bill. The song is a fast mix of squeaky and scratchy notes. The calls include “siip” notes and an unusual short, rough trill.
