Mountain Chiffchaff
Phylloscopus sindianus
Very similar to Common Chiffchaff, but distinctly darker brown, and lacks any green or yellow tones including uppertail coverts and fringes to wing feathers. Note the brownish wash to underparts, especially the flanks, the rather contrasting whitish throat, and white eyebrow. Bill and legs distinctly black. Short primary projection. Breeds in forested mountains, valleys, and foothills, including low-stature mixed forest; winters in lower elevation scrub, including acacia and tamarisks. Call similar to Siberian Chiffchaff: a high-pitched, slightly downslurred "Piiu." Song similar to Common Chiffchaff but faster and less “organized.”

White-collared Jay
Cyanolyca viridicyanus
Handsome small jay of montane Andean forest. Slender and long-tailed, without a crest; overall dark blue with a black face and throat, thin white eyebrow, and white chest arc. Forages at mid-height in mossy forest, often in pairs or small groups. Listen for its repeating whistled call and harsher nasal calls.

Brown Goshawk
Tachyspiza fasciata
Heavily-built gray raptor with orange barring on chest and belly. When soaring, tail-tip is usually rounded. At a distance, appears pale gray from below, with darker wing-tips. When perched, look for heavy brow, large bill, and heavy legs. Immature has dark streaks on chest. Relatively common; pairs often circle high in the sky.

Cameroon Olive-Greenbul
Phyllastrephus poensis
An active but easily overlooked long-tailed greenbul found in flocks in the understory and along the edges of montane forest. Can be found near ant swarms. Has a relatively long brownish tail, generally olive underparts, olive-green upperparts, a pale throat, and a gray face. Usually found at higher elevations than other similar greenbuls. Foraging behavior and tendency to move tail and hold it lower than the body are distinctive. Often detected by its harsh chatter, “chuk-chuk-chuk,” or its bubbling “chuk-CHURR-chrchr” song.
