Long-tailed Meadowlark
Leistes loyca
Handsome and eye-catching bird that is fairly common in grassland, steppe, matorral, farmland, and even town parks with grassy areas. Feeds mainly on the ground, at times in small groups, but male sings from prominent perches and in flight. Male has a bright red breast, long pointed bill, and white eyebrow. Female has much less red below, but note size and shape, and pale eyebrow. No similar species in its Chilean range, but in Argentina compare with Pampas Meadowlark.

Blackish Pewee
Contopus nigrescens
Small, uniformly dark pewee, elusive in the canopy of humid forests, often at higher elevations in Andean foothills but also apparently patchily in Amazonian lowlands. Usually found perching upright at the top of tall trees. Call is a high “peep” like Tropical Pewee, sometimes double-noted.

Black-crowned Tityra
Tityra inquisitor
Handsome, mostly silvery gray bird of tropical lowland forest and adjacent semi-open areas with taller trees. Usually found at mid-upper levels of fruiting trees, sometimes in small groups that mix readily with the commoner Masked Tityra. Black-crowned is told from slightly larger Masked by its solidly black bill. Male is more silvery overall, with a black cap; female had brown face and smaller black cap. Tityras nest in tree cavities, that they sometimes steal from woodpeckers.

Negros Leaf Warbler
Phylloscopus nigrorum
Small leaf warbler of montane rainforest throughout the Philippines. Dark crown lacking a crown stripe, dark eye-stripe, pale eyebrow, often a faint wing bar and white outer tail feathers. Color varies geographically. Eye-stripe can be yellow, whitish or buff; back is brown or olive-green; and belly whitish, yellow or streaked with yellow. Forages actively in upper levels of forest, often in mixed flocks. Compare with migratory leaf warblers. Song is a rolling series of high-pitched warbling notes.
