分布与栖息地

This was originally distributed throughout its native island, which at one time was almost completely covered in forest. Now it is basically restricted to woodland from 200 to 1,500 m (660 to 4,920 ft) above sea-level. A few on the island may still turn in sea-level forested groves and woods surrounded banana and orange plantations. Before ancient Polynesian settlers arrived there, subfossil bones show there was also a population of this bird on Henderson Island in the Pitcairn Islands.

Yellow-bellied Flyrobin

Cryptomicroeca flaviventris

Small mostly grayish songbird with an upright posture and short bill. Note bright yellow belly and small patch of whiter feathers on the throat. Typically found low in dense growth, preferring areas of native habitat including stunted forest and edges. Pleasant song a combination of higher-pitched wheezing whistled notes and lower chiming warbles.

Chinese Blue Flycatcher

Chinese Blue Flycatcher

Cyornis glaucicomans

One of a number of confusingly similar blue flycatchers. Male is brilliant blue above with orange throat and breast; note off-white lower belly. His dark orange throat distinguishes him from Blue-throated Blue Flycatcher. Female is drab brown with an orange chest, white belly, and dull rufous tail. Note weak orangish eyering, dull tannish throat, and overall warm brown coloration. Brown flanks in both sexes. Breeds in montane and hilly forest, typically in areas with dense undergrowth; winters at lower altitudes. Musical song is composed of trills and whistles; calls are a hard “tak” or “chek.”

White-shouldered Antshrike

White-shouldered Antshrike

Thamnophilus aethiops

Shy antshrike found in understory of lowland and foothill rainforest. Male is dark gray or black; he also has small white dots on the shoulder and a white line at the bend of the wing, but these features are not always evident in the field. Female is plain brown; on the western edge of the range, she also has a black face, throat, and tail. Usually first detected by voice: song is a soft series of evenly spaced, nasal caws.
