Sulphur-bellied Bulbul
Iole palawanensis
A medium-sized bird of forest and edge in the mountains on Palawan. Olive-brown above, blending to a more brownish crown which can be slightly raised into a crest, with a yellow belly blending to an olive chest and a whitish throat. Note the pale orange eye. Somewhat similar to Ash-fronted Bulbul, but has yellow belly and pale eyes. Call is a simple nasal “chewp!”

The sulphur-bellied bulbul (Iole palawanensis) is a songbird species in the bulbul family, Pycnonotidae. It is endemic to Palawan (Philippines). Its natural habitat is tropical moist lowland forests.

The sulphur-bellied bulbul was originally described in the genus Criniger. Some authorities have classified the sulphur-bellied bulbul in the genera Hypsipetes and Ixos. Alternate names for the sulphur-bellied bulbul include the golden-eyed bulbul and olive bulbul. The latter name should not be confused with the species bearing the same name, Iole virescens.

Anabacerthia striaticollis
Fairly small brownish bird of Andean foothills and subtropical zone from Venezuela to Bolivia. Rather plain overall with obvious pale eyering and eyebrow, giving it a spectacled appearance. Pale throat is slightly scaled; breast streaking is faint or absent. A regular member of mixed-species flocks in cloud forest, usually staying at low or middle levels. Typical foliage-gleaner behavior, hopping along limbs and investigating clumps of moss and dead leaves.

A small olive songbird with a bold whitish eyebrow and eye-ring. Underparts dull yellow. Juveniles duller with an ill-defined eyebrow. Parties found within forest, forest edge, and nearby scrub in foothills and mountains, attending mixed-species flocks. Restricted to Flores and Sumbawa. Lacks a crest and has a uniformly-colored dark crown, unlike Dark-crowned White-eye, and also shows a longer pale brow and a duller yellow underside. Song is a short, high-pitched warble. Calls include repetitive “pew-pew-pew” and wobbly “chlew” notes.
Pink-headed Fruit-Dove
Ptilinopus porphyreus
An absolute gem of a dove, found only in high montane forests. Combination of bright pink head, black-and-white chest band, and leaf-green back is unmistakable. Female averages slightly duller than the male. Juvenile is green overall, with faint yellow feather fringes that fade with age. Like many other fruit-doves, can be difficult to see when perched quietly in the canopy; low, even hoots (sometimes with a blubbering series of higher-pitched notes following) can be frustratingly difficult to pin down.
