Orange-billed Nightingale-Thrush
Catharus aurantiirostris
Small, plain-breasted thrush of tropical and subtropical woodland; mainly in foothills, but also in highlands. In winter many birds move to coastal lowlands of west Mexico. Feeds mainly on the ground, but also in fruiting bushes. Sings from low to middle level perches, usually well hidden. Unlike most thrushes, sings year-round, but less often in winter. Told from similar species by mostly to wholly orange bill, narrow orange eyering, and brighter pale legs. Song distinctive: slightly jerky and tinny.

White-bearded Hermit
Phaethornis hispidus
Large gray and green hermit of understory rainforest. Gray below, green above with gray rump and white long central tail feathers. Fairly long, slightly downcurved bill, and prominent white throat and moustache. Sexes similar. Similar to Great-billed Hermit, which is more tawny brown overall (not gray), and has a red or orange lower mandible (not yellow). Found in a variety of lowland rainforest habitats; most common around forest edges, along rivers, and around heliconias.

Philippine Megapode
Megapodius cumingii
Odd-looking partridge-like bird with a stunted head. Brown wings, gray underparts, and yellow bill. Found on small offshore islands and within hilly and montane forests on larger islands. Forages on the ground, scraping about in the leaf litter and detritus. Gives long, drawn-out wails somewhat akin to that of emergency vehicles. Like other megapodes, builds mounds and digs burrows to incubate eggs.

Tawny-headed Swallow
Alopochelidon fucata
Diminutive swallow of grasslands and savanna, particularly near water, where it occurs on its own or in small groups. Note the cinnamon head and breast contrasting with a brown back and white belly. Told from the larger Southern Rough-winged Swallow by the cinnamon head and darker rump.
