Chinese Vivid Niltava
Niltava oatesi
Sturdy, migratory flycatcher of dense forests. Breeds in the mountains and winters at lower elevation. Male is blackish-blue above and rufous below with deep-blue crown, collar, shoulder and tail. Female is dull brown, with paler brown underparts and a buffy throat. Like other niltavas, forages primarily in middle levels, often with other species. Similar to Rufous-bellied and Fujian Niltavas, but male has a rufous notch in the dark throat and female lacks blue neck crescent and white throat strap. Song is a series of undulating, clear whistles, sometimes mixed with short trills.

The Chinese vivid niltava (Niltava oatesi) is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae. It is found in the eastern Himalayas to southern China. The Chinese vivid niltava was formerly considered conspecific to the Taiwan vivid niltava (N. vivida). Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Steppe Eagle
Aquila nipalensis
A large eagle with rich brown plumage, wide wings, and seven well-splayed “fingers” at the wingtip. Adults are entirely dark brown; juveniles and immatures at rest show a distinctive wide white band bordered with black on the wing. In flight, this transforms into a white traverse band on the underwing that forms the base of the primary and secondary feathers. Birds take about four years to attain adult plumage. Frequents open grasslands, deserts, scrub, wetlands, and mountains, and is a regular carcass feeder along with vultures.

Alaemon alaudipes
A unique, large desert lark. On the ground, plumage is unimpressive with spotted breast and overall sandy tones, but in flight a magnificent white-and-black pattern is exposed. Males are slightly brighter-patterned than females. Bill is long and downcurved. Constantly runs on its long legs. Breeds on sandy and stony plains and low hills. Resident or nomadic. Song is a beautiful ascending series on flutey whistles followed by a descending trill; often given in a dramatic vertical display flight.
Purple-throated Sunbird
Leptocoma sperata
A very small bird of wooded areas from the lowlands to lower elevations in the mountains. Male has dark upperparts with a greenish crown and rump, a deep purple throat and upper chest, and a bright red lower chest and upper belly. In Sulu and west Mindanao birds, the red on the chest is replaced by yellow with an orange wash. Male is distinctive. Female resembles several other drab female sunbirds, but has a yellow brow and chest and a brown wing. Call is a sharp upslurred “tsweep!”
