Red-naped Bushshrike

Medium-sized hummingbird of oak and pine-oak woodlands and adjacent shrubby clearings; also local in lowland pine savannas. Sexes look alike and often look rather dull overall, despite the name. Note the whitish throat and breast offset by a dusky vest, and the dusky brownish rump and tail. Crown and sides of head are blue (rarely catching the light), with a white spot behind the eye and some red at base of bill.

A large mostly cinnamon flycatcher with a paler breast and belly. Note the black bill with a pinkish base. Inhabits savanna woodland and gallery forests. In nonbreeding season can be found in Chaco woodland and the edge of humid forests. Mostly silent.

A gregarious resident of dense tangles and thickets in otherwise open habitats; not found in dense forest or mangroves. The gray body contrasts sharply with its yellow head, but note that some birds have yellow on the chest as well. Prothonotary Warblers are somewhat similar, but are mostly yellow below with a green (not gray) back. Pine Warblers have a green back, white wingbars, and are usually more extensively yellow below. Song is a series of raspy buzzy notes. Call notes similar to song, but are given singularly or without pattern.
