Maroon-backed Whistler
Coracornis raveni
A sparrow-sized, thick-billed songbird from the mountains of Sulawesi. Male is distinctive, almost entirely dark sooty gray except for the maroon back. Female and juvenile are nondescript, entirely dark rusty-brown above and dull olive underneath, but paler on the undertail. A shy inhabitant of montane forest, where singles and pairs stay low in the understory. Female is dark on the breast, unlike Sulphur-bellied Whistler, and lacks yellow flanks, unlike Hylocitrea. Vocalizations are characteristic of whistlers, often including whipping notes: “chiyoo-WHIT” and “chi-WHIT.” Also gives a subdued “brrrr-chit.”

The maroon-backed whistler (Coracornis raveni) is a species of bird in the family Pachycephalidae. It is endemic to Sulawesi, Indonesia. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Some authorities have classified the maroon-backed whistler in the genus Pachycephala. Alternate names include the Rano Rano whistler and Raven's whistler.

Cream-backed Woodpecker
Campephilus leucopogon
Remarkable large woodpecker, mostly black with a red head and a large cream patch on the back. Females have a cream moustachial stripe and a black forehead. Occurs in open woodlands and savanna. The call is a nasal “pi-ow” and the drum is a double tap.

Medium-sized, mostly green parakeet with a black hood, red thighs, and blue in the wings and tail. Native to central South America, where it is found in open woodlands and grasslands with scattered trees. Introduced populations in the Americas and Europe often found around neighborhood parks and gardens. Call is a typical parrot shriek and is rather high-pitched.

Long, curved bill. Adults mostly dark with iridescent green and reddish tones. Very thin white border surrounding the dark facial skin. Dark eyes. Usually gregarious, it is found mainly in salty marshes and shallow wetlands. Unmistakable in most of its range, though American birds are best distinguished from White-faced Ibis by distribution and facial pattern.
