Yungas Manakin
Chiroxiphia boliviana
Fairly large manakin of montane forest habitats. Males are black with a blue back and red cap; females are dull olive green. Both sexes have a dark brown eye. Found at higher elevations than similar Blue-backed Manakin. Favors the understory of mossy forest, including on outlying ridges. Listen for its loud whistled calls.

Chestnut Seedeater
Sporophila cinnamomea
Handsome seedeater. Males are mostly chestnut with a gray cap, wings, and tail, while females are sandy-colored and difficult to separate from other female seedeaters. Rare; found in marshy areas with tall grass, migrating north in the austral winter.
Canebrake Groundcreeper
Clibanornis dendrocolaptoides
Large, long-tailed ovenbird, rusty above and grayish below. Note the buff eyebrow and black spots at the sides of the throat. Found in montane forest and old second growth; often associated with bamboo or dense understory, usually near streams. Behavior poorly known, but forages in pairs both arboreally and terrestrially. Song is a loud series of staccato notes.

Symposiachrus leucurus
A distinctive, heavy-billed black-and-white flycatcher-like songbird from the Kai Islands. Adult entirely black except for white lower chest and belly and white outer tail feathers. Juvenile gray-brown above and buffy below. Singles and pairs inhabit mangrove, forest, forest edge, and woodland in lowlands and low hills. Joins mixed-species flocks. Unmistakable in its limited range. Song is a single disyllabic whistle, “see-ooo,” descending in the latter half. Calls include a rasping, scolding “grrr-grrr-grrr…” and a weak, wavering chatter.
