Black-throated Prinia
Prinia atrogularis
Very long tailed prinia of hilly and montane areas, descending to foothills in winter. Plain with brown upperparts, slightly rustier on the wing, and paler belly. Breeding adult’s gray head, white moustache stripe, black throat and chest are unique. Favors scrubby, and open areas such as clearings and forest and field edge. Breeding plumage unmistakable. Non-breeding plumage somewhat similar to Himalayan Prinia, but Black-throated has unstreaked upperparts and white eyebrow. Song is a repetitive series of “plik” notes. Often gives buzzy call notes.

Lesser Whistling-Duck
Dendrocygna javanica
A small, well-proportioned, tree-nesting duck. Pale brown overall with a darker brown crown and nape, warmer chestnut underparts, and chestnut-fringed feathers on the back. Note the faint orange-yellow eyering and the dark gray bill and legs. Sexes similar; juveniles duller. A gregarious duck found in shallow water bodies with abundant vegetation. Flies with rapid wingbeats on broad dark wings; note flashing chestnut shoulders and chestnut rump. Call is a wheezy whistling “seasick-seasick."
Double-striped Thick-knee
Hesperoburhinus bistriatus
Large and bizarre shorebird of lowland dry grassland and savannas, usually found in pairs or small groups. Active mainly at night (note the big, yellow, owl-like eyes). During the daytime, usually seen standing or sitting quietly, often in the shade of small trees or bushes. Note cryptic, overall pale sandy plumage, double stripes on the head, and long yellow legs.
Rusty-backed Spinetail
Cranioleuca vulpina
A small long-tailed bird found in gallery forests near water, mostly foraging in the understory. Rusty above and pale below with a white eyebrow. Similar to Yellow-chinned Spinetail, but has a pale (not black) lower mandible. The song, usually given as a duet, is a series of high-pitched notes.
