Sulawesi Blue Flycatcher
Cyornis omissus
A colorful blue-and-orange flycatcher. Entirely dark blue above and orange below, including most of throat. Pairs and singles inhabit understory of forest, edges, and patches from lowlands to mountains, although scarce in mountains. Differs from Rufous-throated and Snowy-browed Flycatchers in the orange belly, and from male Blue-fronted Blue Flycatcher in the largely orange throat. Female’s blue back separates her from female Blue-fronted Blue Flycatcher. Warbling song starts with high-pitched rising notes before descending into a short, lower-pitched warble. Also gives metallic “tchak” notes.

The Sulawesi blue flycatcher (Cyornis omissus) is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae. It is endemic to Indonesia. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Four subspecies are recognised: C. o. omissus (Hartert, EJO, 1896) – montane Sulawesi C. o. omississimus Rheindt, Prawiradilaga, Ashari & Suparno & Gwee, 2020 – Togian Islands (between northeast and central east Sulawesi) C. o. peromissus Hartert, EJO, 1920 – Salayar (south of Sulawesi) C. o. djampeanus (Hartert, EJO, 1896) – Tanahjampea (south of Sulawesi) The subspecies C. o. djampeanus is sometimes recognised as a separate species, the Tanahjampea blue flycatcher.

Absolutely tiny round gray bird, comparable in size to a flowerpecker or small sunbird. Fairly plain overall, but note pale eyes, whitish underparts, and stout dark bill. Very active, flitting about quickly in the upper and middle levels of forest, usually in small groups. Gives sharp chips and dry, rattling trills.

Setophaga angelae
A medium-sized warbler of moist montane dwarf forests where it feeds actively in dense canopy foliage. It is most readily distinguished from Black-and-white Warbler by the absence of white streaking on its back and the lack of a white eyebrow. Easily separated from Blackpoll Warblers, which have a white, not black cheek. Song is a thin trill, higher pitched during first half and lower pitched during the second. Call note is a high, thin “Peet.”
Malaita White-eye
Zosterops stresemanni
Small. Olive-green above with a yellow belly and vent. Chest mottled buffy-olive. Bill long and fleshy. Note the thin black eye-ring and smudge in front of the eye. Common in primary forest, less common in other scrub and forest. Song reported to be melodious. Calls include a high-pitched “sit” and “peep.”
