Plain Greenbul
Eurillas curvirostris
This greenbul is indeed unusually plain, even by the standards of greenbuls, but it does show a pale eye-ring and a throat that is slightly paler than the rest of the dusky underparts. Found in the understory and mid-story of humid forest, from low to fairly high elevations. The call is a short, dry trill. In the west, the song is a couple of whistles followed by a trill; in the east, the song is a short series of up-and-down whistles. Very similar to several other greenbul species. Best distinguished by a combination of vocalizations, size, and the contrastingly paler throat.

The plain greenbul (Eurillas curvirostris) is a species of the bulbul family of passerine birds. It is mainly native to the Guineo-Congolian region. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.

The plain greenbul was originally described in the genus Andropadus and was re-classified to the genus Eurillas in 2010. Alternatively, some authorities classify the plain greenbul in the genus Pycnonotus.<p>Two subspecies are recognized:

Squacco Heron
Ardeola ralloides
Small stout heron; favors freshwater marshes, lakes, and ponds with reeds and other surrounding vegetation. Tends to hunt rather sluggishly, hunched quietly at the edge of the water. At rest, appears buffy brown overall, but in flight transforms to mostly white when white wings and tail are revealed. Breeding adult has a rich buffy neck; nonbreeding and immature have a streaked neck.
Black-and-tawny Seedeater
Sporophila nigrorufa
Small seedeater with a short thick bill. Males are black and cinnamon-colored; note the cinnamon rump. Females are green-olive, like other female seedeaters. Occurs in grassy areas near water; may gather in large flocks of up to 100 individuals in the non-breading season, but has a very limited global range.
Gadwall
Mareca strepera
Fairly large duck with extensive range across Northern Hemisphere. Males are mostly gray with a black rear end and puffy head. Also look for small white wing patch in flight. Females are similar to Mallard, but note thinner bill, plainer face, orange line along the edge of the bill, and white wing patch in flight. Typically found in pairs or small flocks in shallow wetlands, ponds, or bays, sometimes mixed with other species of ducks.
