Short-tailed Antthrush
Chamaeza campanisona
Plump terrestrial bird with a short cocked-tail and long legs. Walks quietly on the ground in humid forests where its shy nature and cryptic plumage make it difficult to spot. Olive-brown above with a prominent, but short white eyebrow and buffy streaking below. Several different subspecies occur throughout South America with variable patterning on the breast. The song is a melodious series of soft notes varying in length between subspecies and mostly given while perched above the ground.

Slender-billed Finch
Xenospingus concolor
Long-tailed, often rather skulking “finch” (actually a tanager) of scrub, hedges, and riverside thickets in desert lowlands, where no very similar species are found. Adult blue-gray overall with slender, bright yellow bill, and yellow legs; tail often held cocked. Immature looks very different: streaky overall with white eyering and slender yellow bill (darker on youngest birds). Voice notably varied: chips, clucks, and chatters usually given from cover.
San Cristobal Mockingbird
Mimus melanotis
A fairly large gray-and-white songbird with a long tail, slightly curved bill, black mask, and blotchy gray vest. Endemic to Galápagos. Found only on San Cristóbal Island, where it is the only mockingbird. Adult may have a faint, dark mustache; juvenile has a heavily spotted breast. Uncommon and usually encountered alone or in pairs, in areas with scattered trees and cacti; tends to avoid tall, dense forest.
Purple Finch
Haemorhous purpureus
Males suffused with raspberry red, especially on head and breast. Compared to House Finch, males lack distinct streaks on sides and are overall more colorful, especially on back and wings. Females and first-year males have contrasty head pattern with pale eyebrow and darker cheek; also note well-defined streaks on sides. Breed in coniferous or mixed forests. Winters in a wider variety of habitats with trees. Visits feeders.
