Marico Flycatcher
Bradornis mariquensis
A large flycatcher with upright posture, plain brown upperparts with warm edges to flight feathers, and diagnostic and strongly contrasting bold white underparts. Juveniles are heavily streaked brown and white. Pairs and small groups inhabit arid scrub, favoring thorn trees, where they sit conspicuously on low perches, sallying or pouncing onto the ground to subdue prey. All other brown flycatchers in the same range have brown or buffy underparts.

The Marico flycatcher was previously placed in the genus Bradornis but was moved to Melaenornis based on the results of a molecular phylogenetic study published in 2010.

Elliot's Laughingthrush
Trochalopteron elliotii
Gray-brown laughingthrush with pale eyes and a prominent yellow patch on the wings. Can be very tame; a common sight around campsites, rest stops, and tourist attractions throughout much of its range. Garrulous and social, often seen in small to medium-sized flocks. When not scrounging for human-made trash, it forages on the ground and in low undergrowth, sometimes associating with other species in mixed flocks. Adaptable, inhabiting forests, open scrubby areas, and parks.
Rufous-tailed Hummingbird
Amazilia tzacatl
Handsome, medium-size hummingbird of humid tropical lowlands. Favors forest edge, second growth, gardens in some areas. Feeds low to high and often comes to feeders. Can be difficult to distinguish from Buff-bellied Hummingbird, which favors drier habitats. Rufous-tailed has a dingier, grayish belly and more extensive rusty on the tail, which lacks the distinct fork often shown by Buff-bellied’s tail. Also compare Cinnamon Hummingbird.
Richard's Pipit
Anthus richardi
Large, robust, almost thrushlike pipit given the big bill, long and pale eyebrow, and long tail. If perched off the ground the very large hind claws and long legs are obvious. Flight is strong, heavy, and bounding. Utters "pshee" call when flushed. Found in open grasslands, stubble fields, farmland, dunes, and salt marshes. Separation from other large pipits can be difficult; pay attention to call and wing pattern.
