Hooded Mountain-Toucan
Andigena cucullata
Beautiful toucan of Andean cloud forest that is found mainly in Bolivia, though it also reaches far southeastern Peru. Very colorful, with greenish wings, mostly blue underparts, an azure collar, and a yellow bill with a black tip and black spot near the base. It occurs south of the range of Gray-breasted Mountain-Toucan, which has a very different bill pattern. Typically encountered in pairs or small groups in the forest canopy, where it sometimes gives rising squeals, short yaps, and harsh rattles.

The hooded mountain toucan is 48 to 50 cm (19 to 20 in) long and weighs 222 to 380 g (7.8 to 13 oz). Males and females have the same plumage and bill pattern though the female's bill is shorter. Their bill is mostly yellow-green, with a black tip and a black spot near the base of the mandible. Their head is dark blue to black with pale blue bare skin around the eye and a gray-blue collar on the hindneck. Their upper back is chestnut becoming green and yellow at the rump. Their tail is blackish and their wings green. Their underparts are mostly sooty blue to blue-gray; their thighs are rusty and their undertail coverts are red.

The hooded mountain toucan is found on the east side of the Andes from southeastern Peru's Department of Puno into western and central Bolivia as far as Cochabamba Department. It inhabits wet temperate and subtropical forest. In elevation it mostly ranges between 2,400 and 3,300 m (7,900 and 10,800 ft) but is known as low as 2,000 m (6,600 ft).

The hooded mountain toucan is mostly sedentary but individuals wander below the usual lower limit of its range.<p>The hooded mountain toucan forages from the forest's understorey up to its canopy, singly or in small groups that might be extended families. Its diet is known to include several kinds of fruit but details are lacking.<p>The hooded mountain toucan's breeding season is thought to be from February to June but perhaps might start as early as November. Essentially nothing else is known about its breeding biology.<p>The hooded mountain toucan's song is "a slow series of 'peeeeah' notes". Its calls include "ick" or "tik" notes. Songs and calls can include bill-clapping.

Long-tufted Screech-Owl
Megascops sanctaecatarinae
Medium-sized screech-owl, very similar to Black-capped Screech Owl, but smaller and their ranges marginally overlap. Occurs in both brown and rufous morphs, both with yellow eyes. Found open woodland and forest edge, avoiding dense woodland. The song is a rolling trill, “rrrrrrr-ruh," lasting about 20 seconds.

Chunky rainforest bird with emerald green upperparts, dark eye, and green-olive underparts with pale streaking. Inhabits the east coast of Australia from southeastern Queensland to the south coast of New South Wales, thus does not overlap with Spotted Catbird. Forages mostly in middle and upper story of the rainforest. Compare female and juvenile Satin Bowerbird (with blue eye, darker bill). Call a very loud yowl, which sounds just like a cat.
Red-backed Sierra Finch

Handsome “finch” that is actually a tanager; found very locally on bogs and rocky slopes of the high Andes. Usually in pairs (sexes look similar) or small groups, feeding quietly on the ground and not associating with other seed-eating birds. Contrasting bright rusty back is diagnostic, but seen only from the front can look very similar to White-throated Sierra-Finch. Immature has duller rusty back with vague dark streaking.
