Aberdare Cisticola

A plain clay-brown laughingthrush with a long, curved yellow bill. Largely without distinguishing plumage features, but note weak white brow, blue-gray tinge to the wings, and small black patches on the “elbow” and face. The only laughingthrush in much of its range. Forages in hilly and montane regions, where it often moves about noisily in medium-sized flocks in scrubby, brushy habitat, often near waterways. Long rambling song melodious and thrush-like; calls include fluid whistles, nasal chattering, and quiet peeping.

Small tanager of semi-arid montane forest at upper elevations in the eastern Andes from NW Argentina to Lake Titicaca, and in the Sierra de Comechingones in C Argentina. Prefers scrubby vegetation, including open Polylepis forest, often in small flocks with other species. Underparts gray and whitish with rufous restricted to sides and flanks on males, and lower belly on females. Similar Bolivia Warbling-Finch shows rufous across chest.

A medium-sized cuckoo, with a warm buff to chestnut colored chest and belly. Gray eyering and heavily barred tail. Lack of a yellow eyering separates it from Fan-tailed Cuckoo (which is rare in the Solomons). Most frequently encountered by its song, a slow series of well spaced whistles, each lower than the last.
