Rockrunner

Medium-sized wren, brown above with bold black-and-white streaking on face and breast. Distinctive in range. Fond of viney tangles at middle heights, but can be difficult to see through vegetation. Variable song always includes sweet repeated whistles, sometimes very simple but can be more complex, similar to other wrens.

Tiny, inconspicuous flycatcher; in addition to small size, note stubby bill, wing bars, and longish tail. Found in a variety of forest habitats including primary and secondary rainforest, low-stature forests with sandy soils, and along river edges. Often sits on leaf clusters at the ends of branches, sallying for insects; also feeds on fruit. Heard far more than seen. Most common call is a dry, two-noted hiccup that is easily overlooked; dawn song is a repeated, rising twitter.

Typical gadfly petrel with long, angular wings, long tail, and rapid, banking flight. Very similar to Fea's Petrel, but slightly smaller and has a smaller bill and a more rounded head. As in Fea's Petrel, underwing is mainly dark, underparts are white, and hood is gray with darker eye-surround. Upperparts gray with darker W-shape across wings and mantle. Breeds on mountaintops in Madeira only. Forages at sea.
