Gray-breasted Crake
Laterallus exilis
Very small and elusive crake of damp grassy fields, brushy pastures, and marshes. Walks quietly and runs quickly, like all rails. Note the lime-green bill base and red eyes set off by a grayish face. Told from similar Black Rail by yellowish legs and unspotted upperparts. Heard much more often than seen; distinctive piping song easily passed over as a frog. Trilling call is drier than similar call of Ruddy Crake.

分布与栖息地
The grey-breasted crake has several discreet ranges. One is from Belize and eastern Guatemala through Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama into Colombia and western Venezuela. Another is in central Venezuela and a third extends through the Guianas into Brazil. The largest encompasses most of Amazonian Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Bolivia and extends south through Paraguay into northeastern Argentina. It is also found in northwestern Ecuador, in several enclaves along coastal southeastern Brazil, and on Trinidad.
The grey-breasted crake inhabits a variety of landscapes. Most have shallow standing water, such as the edges of marshes, rivers, and lakes and also wet meadows and rice fields. It also occurs in dry sites like pastures and airfields.

The grey-breasted crake is thought to be sedentary, but some local movements are suspected.
The grey-breasted crake's foraging technique has not been described. It makes a sperical nest of woven grass and weed stems with a side entrance. The typical clutch size is three eggs.
The grey-breasted crake has several vocalizations including "a series of 2–10 'tink' or 'keek' notes; also [a] descending musical rattle and [a] quiet, sharp 'check'."

Checkered Woodpecker
Dryobates mixtus
A small woodpecker with black-and-white spots throughout the body with a black mask framed by two white lines. Males have a red hindcrown, while females have a dark hindcrown. Mostly found in open savanna woodland.

Togo Paradise-Whydah
Vidua togoensis
A nest parasite that lays its eggs in the nests of Yellow-winged Pytilias. As with other whydahs, breeding males are spectacular and bizarre, whereas non-breeding males and females are drab and inconspicuous. Breeding males are mostly black with a rufous breast, a yellow back of the neck, and a long, narrow tail. Non-breeding male and female plumages are poorly known, but show a streaky brownish back and pale underparts. Generally scarce and local in savanna and cultivated areas. Breeding male similar to other paradise-whydahs, but has a longer and narrower tail. Separation of non-breeding male and female from other paradise-whydahs is poorly understood. Not very vocal, but does mimic Yellow-winged Pytilia vocalizations, which include simple, nasal “teew” notes.

Black-crowned Antshrike
Thamnophilus atrinucha
Uncommon in tropical lowlands, mainly in forest borders, plantations, open woodlands, and second growth. Mainly forages at low to middle levels and, like many antbirds, often in pairs, which keep in touch by singing. Male is gray overall with a messy blackish cap, blackish wings with white wingbars and edgings, and white-tipped black tail. Female has similar wing and tail pattern, but is drab brownish overall, paler on underparts. Formerly known as Western Slaty Antshrike.
