Nullarbor Quail-thrush
Cinclosoma alisteri
Heavily patterned terrestrial bird of Nullarbor Plain. Both sexes have pale eyebrow, brown back, and black-and-white markings on wing. Female has buff chin and moustache, white belly, and pale gray chest, male a white moustache, black throat patch that connects to thick black breast band (forming an upside-down "T"), and brown sides. Note that male Copperback Quail-thrush has black chest. Usually seen walking around in very open low shrubland. Calls include a long, high-pitched whistled "seeeep."
识别特征
The size of the male is slightly larger than the female, the range is 185 to 210 millimetres. The tail colour is black at the outer feathers, tipped with white, the upper parts of the plumage is otherwise a rufous colour. Black coloration appears at the lores, throat, breast, and beneath white spots at the shoulder.

分布与栖息地
The range is restricted to the Nullarbor Plain, an area in southern Australia that extends across the Western and South Australian border. The habitat favoured by this species is described as limestone gibber plains, containing little overlying vegetation, and shrub-dominated plant communities on the steppe.<p>Two other species of the genus are populations that also resulted from the increasing aridity of the Australian continent: the chestnut quail-thrush Cinclosoma castanotum has a wider distribution that overlaps with this species; and the cinnamon quail-thrush Cinclosoma cinnamomeum which is only found to the north of the Nullarbor.

行为
A ground-feeding bird that is usually only evident while foraging, Cinclosoma alisteri actively moves over a range, although in a haphazard manner, turning stones in search of seeds and small invertebrates. This quail-thrush is able to see anything approaching for a considerable distance on the plains, and will quickly seek refuge beneath a shrub or in the burrows created by the introduced rabbit. During the breeding season a pair will defend a territory, but at other times they are found in groups of around individuals. Breeding may occur at any opportune time of the year, but always during a period from August to September. The site selected for breeding may be a slight depression scraped into the earth by the female, but is often against a bush, rock, or patch of grass and lined with strips of plant material. The clutch size is usually two eggs, measuring 28 by 20 mm, which are a creamy white colour with brownish or greyish spots.

Red-eared Fruit-Dove
Ptilinopus fischeri
A large fruit-dove from Sulawesi. Very pale gray head has a diagnostic red mask that extends onto the nape as a black band. Juveniles duller, with subdued mask, and lack band on nape. Upperparts green in central and north Sulawesi, gray in the south. Underparts largely pale gray, with dark markings on the undertail. A montane species found in singles and pairs within the understory and canopy. Voice is a short, clipped “whoOP," often becoming slightly louder at the end.

Palm Tanager
Thraupis palmarum
Large, plain tanager, gray overall with hints of olive-green in good light; note contrasting black wings with paler patch at base of primaries. A habitat generalist often found around palm trees and in open shrubby areas, gardens, and forest edges. Usually in pairs or small flocks, sometimes with other species. Often quite noisy and conspicuous; gives a series of sputtering squeaks or a single nasal “swee?”

Brown-breasted Barbet
Pogonornis melanopterus
Large and unusually colored barbet, with a mostly red head, a broad brown band across the underparts, a black back, and a white belly and rump patch. Also note the chunky pale bill. Found locally in moist woodland, gardens, and along forest edge. Often in pairs. The easily ignored call is a rough, repeated “kyea”. Somewhat similar to Black-billed Barbet, but easily separated by the brown rather than black breast band, and the pale rather than dark bill.
