Collared Nightjar
Gactornis enarratus
Beautifully patterned cryptic nightjar. Found mainly inside of eastern and northern Madagascar rainforest, though very locally in dry forest. Most often seen when located by local guides, sleeping on the forest floor during the day, usually below a pandanus. Apparently completely silent, which is bizarre for a member of the nightjar family. When perched, distinguished from Madagascar Nightjar by its rufous collar; in flight, by its lack of white in the wings.

Yucatan Vireo
Vireo magister
Large, big-billed vireo of eastern Yucatan Peninsula, offshore islands, and Grand Cayman. Forages low to high in tropical woodland, thickets, and overgrown clearings; like many vireos, often found eating berries. Rather drab but distinctive, with olive-gray upperparts, dingy underparts, and a broad pale eyebrow set off by a thick black eyestripe thickest forward of eyes.

Black Caracara
Daptrius ater
Crow-sized raptor typically found around forest edges and rivers. Entirely black except for gleaming white rump and bright facial skin and legs. Similar to Red-throated Caracara that occurs in forest interiors, but has more extensive black plumage and is found in more open habitats. Frequently travels in pairs or groups and is often found around human activity in agricultural areas and riverside towns.

Rusty Laughingthrush
Pterorhinus poecilorhynchus
Beautiful songbird, bright rust-orange above, gray below, with white undertail coverts and blue skin around the eye. Inhabits montane forests, from which it descends into foothills in winter. Social and noisy; gives a wide range of different whistling, hooting, and clucking noises.
