Sahul Brush Cuckoo
Cacomantis variolosus
A medium-sized cuckoo, with a warm buff colored chest and belly. Gray eyering and heavily barred tail. Lack of a yellow eyering separates it from Fan-tailed Cuckoo, with which it overlaps in Australia and New Guinea. Calls frequently with an exhaustive series of separate whistles that fall in pitch and speed. Also does the remarkable "brain-fever-bird," a call that is repeated faster and faster.

Yellowish Bulbul
Hypsipetes everetti
A medium-sized bird of lowland and foothill forest and edge. Fairly large for a bulbul. Two different-looking races occur. The widespread one is olive-brown above with a yellow belly and an orange-brown chest, throat, and cheek. Sulu birds have warm brown upperparts. Yellowish Bulbul is similar to Philippine Bulbul, but has a yellow rather than white belly. Song consists of a descending series of medium-pitched notes, jumping back to a higher note at the end. Also gives harsh grating calls and nasal screeches.

Christmas Island-Thrush
Turdus erythropleurus
Brown and gray thrush with an orange belly, pale throat, and bright orange bill, eyering, legs, and feet. Inhabits forested habitats across Christmas Island, where it can sometimes be found quite close to human habitation; the only resident thrush on the island, and unmistakable. Often encountered foraging actively on the ground. Song is a variable series of doubled notes; calls include an explosive chattering series of rapid chup notes.

Nihoa Finch
Telespiza ultima
A finch-billed Hawaiian honeycreeper endemic to the island of Nihoa; does not occur on the main Hawaiian Islands. Unlikely to be confused with any other species; the only other passerine bird on Nihoa is the Millerbird, which lacks the Nihoa Finch’s heavy bill. Males have a bright yellow head and breast. Females are paler yellow and heavily streaked on the back. Common throughout the island.
