Great Shortwing
Heinrichia calligyna
A shy, long-legged terrestrial flycatcher-like bird restricted to the mountains of Sulawesi. Male is largely dark blue with a blacker face. Female shows a diagnostic white smudge between the eye and bill, but forms differ in underparts coloration: in southeast females show a rufous throat and breast, central females have rufous limited to the throat, and northern ones have a rusty throat and breast. Juveniles are brownish-blue with pale throat streaking. Inhabits montane forest understory, on or close to the ground, often near rocky streamsides. Song is a lazy, thrush-like, melancholy warble comprising several quavering notes.
识别特征
The great shortwing is a stocky bird with short rounded wings, growing to a length of about 17.5 cm (7 in). In general size and shape it resembles a European robin (Erithacus rubecula). The male is almost entirely very dark blue apart from a small patch of white at either side of the base of the tail. The female is a similar blue colour but has a white spot in front of the eye and a reddish-brown rump. It has a reddish-brown sheen to the throat and upper breast, and greyish-blue underparts. Both sexes have red irises, black beaks and greyish legs.

行为
The great shortwing is a shy and secretive bird which lurks in dense foliage, tangled thickets, vines, deep gullies and streamside vegetation. It can sometimes be heard singing in the early morning from dense cover, often with two birds singing in duet. The song is a high-pitched, wavering series of whistles that increase in pitch and volume, the phrase being repeated, over and over again, for up to a minute. The bird feeds on the ground, foraging through the leaf litter, mosses and lichens, presumably feeding on insects, grubs and other small invertebrates. The nesting habits are unknown, but a juvenile was observed in Lore Lindu National Park in September 2016.

Sangihe Whistler
Coracornis sanghirensis
A chunky, dingy-looking, thick-billed songbird. Upperparts dark olive-brown, with a grayish head and a pale buff wash on the underparts. Note the pale bill with a dark tip. A rare species confined to canopy of tall, mature hill forest on Sangihe Island at sites where this habitat persists on ridges. Typically encountered in small groups or pairs. Most similar to Sangihe Golden-Bulbul, but Sangihe Whistler has a bicolored bill and lacks a yellow throat and face. Its loud song consists of around four repeated phrases. Also gives “churr” and sharp “wit” calls.

Biak White-eye
Zosterops mysorensis
A small bird of forest on Biak Island where it is the only white-eye. Olive-green head and back, yellow under the base of the tail, dark gray face, pale gray underparts with whitish throat and belly. Note the lack of an eye-ring. Sometimes associates with other small birds. Similar size to Island Leaf-Warbler and Biak Gerygone, but Biak White-eye has grayish rather than yellow underparts. Voice, an up-and-down, high-pitch, warbling song and a rather sharp, descending “meuu” call.

Sooty-capped Hermit
Phaethornis augusti
Large, brownish hummingbird with a long tail. Pale gray below with strong facial markings and a contrasting rufous rump; broad white tail feather tips are a key field mark. Occurs in dry forest and along savanna edge, where it visits widely spaced nectar sources and is often seen moving rapidly between them. Notably curious and will often stop to assess a person before quickly moving on; amount of white in tail is especially evident as bird flies away. Males sing from low perches; song consists of two squeaking notes followed by three faster, higher-pitched ones, given in alternation, over and over. Flight call is a loud squeak, similar to other large hermits. Best told from Long-tailed and Great-billed hermits by paler, grayer coloration and extensive white in tail.
