Red-shouldered Vanga
Calicalicus rufocarpalis
Small vanga that is built like a chickadee or tit. Male is colorful and female plain brownish. Madagascar endemic that is found very locally in spiny forest growing on limestone. Only described to science in the 1990s. Most common vocalization is a two- or three-part rising whistle. Separated from much more widespread Red-tailed Vanga by its pale eye and additional red on the shoulder.
识别特征
Like many of the vangas, this species is sexually dimorphic; the male is the more colorful of the two. He has a pale gray crown, nape and mantle, with white on the ear coverts and forehead. Other than a black bib, which extends from the beak partway down the breast and up the sides of his neck, his underparts are principally whitish, tinged with pink on the breast and flanks. His flight feathers are brown, his wing coverts are brick-red, and his tail is a pale brick-red. His beak is black, his irides are yellow, and his legs and feet are pinkish-gray.

Namaqua Dove
Oena capensis
Tiny, long-tailed dove that is dark above and pale below. Male has a black mask and colorful bill. Female has a plain head and dark bill. In flight, the wings are bright rufous. Found in a variety of dry, open habitats at low and middle elevations. Voice is a long, two-parted “hoo-oooooo” which is repeated, sometimes endlessly. Distinguished from all other doves in its range by its small size and long-tailed shape.
Line-cheeked Spinetail
Cranioleuca antisiensis
Handsome spinetail of Andean forest and scrub; ranges from southern Ecuador to central Peru. Plumage is grayish-brown with a white eyebrow and bright chestnut crown, wings, and tail. Birds in Ecuador and far northern Peru are slightly smaller and tend to be browner, with a bit less white on the throat. Typically found in pairs at any level, and often quite vocal. Typical song is a few sharp squeaks followed by a descending trill.
Delicate Prinia
Prinia lepida
Tiny, disproportionately long-tailed, active, and vocal. The upperparts are gray-brown with heavy dark streaking, the underparts are pale, and each tail feather shows both pale and dark tips. Generally found in rather moist habitats within arid zones, including field margins, riparian woodland, scrub, gardens, and wetlands; can be quite numerous. Very vocal, especially in spring. The song is a rattling series of dry chirps, subtly different from the slower-paced song of Graceful Prinia. Males often sing from obvious perches. Visually extremely similar to Graceful Prinia, but there is little overlap in range. In any areas of overlap, best separated by song, but Delicate is also slightly longer- and narrower-tailed and browner.
