Upcher's Warbler
Hippolais languida
A medium-sized, gray-brown warbler that looks very similar to other species. Note the rather stout bill and broad dark tail. Smaller and browner than Olive-tree Warbler and larger than Eastern Olivaceous Warbler. Wing panel is not as prominent as that of Olive-tree Warbler. Breeds on scrubby hillsides and river valleys; occasionally in flatter lowlands. During non-breeding season, found in a variety of wooded or brushy habitats. Sings from prominent perches—a repetitive, rapid mix of musical and scratchy phrases. Call is a harsh "chak."

Blue-capped Tanager
Sporathraupis cyanocephala
Fairly large tanager, bright olive above and gray below with mostly blue head. Stout bill. Sexes similar. Mostly an Andean species, found in the subtropical and temperate zones. Usually single or in pairs, often following a mixed-species flock. Occurs in any open wooded habitat, including forest edges, second growth, and gardens.

Short-tailed Nighthawk
Lurocalis semitorquatus
Dark nighthawk, most often seen flying over the forest canopy or a river at dusk. Overall brown with richer rufous belly and underwings; small white throat patch is sometimes difficult to see. Short tail is noticeable in flight. Unlike many other similar species, does not show white patches in wings. Sexes alike. Even less conspicuous than other nighthawks, often appearing fleetingly in the twilight and very rarely seen roosting during the day.

River Lapwing
Vanellus duvaucelii
The black, gray, and brown coloration of this medium-sized shorebird makes it unmistakable. Raises black crest when displaying. As the name suggests, this species is primarily tied to rivers, where it is often seen foraging in pairs on riverbanks or exposed islands. Calls shrilly and loudly, both during display and when alarmed.
