Slate-throated Redstart
Myioborus miniatus
Active and attractive warbler of highlands and foothills. Sexes look alike: head and upperparts slaty gray with blacker face and small rusty cap. Belly is red in Mexico, orange-red in northern Central America, and yellow from Costa Rica to South America. White-tipped tail is usually fanned and flapped side-to-side. Favors evergreen and pine-oak forest and edge, and cloud forest in the Andes. Usually in pairs, foraging mainly at low to middle levels, at times even on the ground. Frequently joins mixed-species feeding flocks.
识别特征
The slate-throated whitestart is a long-tailed warbler measuring 12 cm (4.7 in) long. It has a deep rufous head, dark back, and contrasting bright yellow breast, belly and white vent and tail tips. The bill is black, and the legs are blackish-gray.<p>While most of its plumage changes little throughout its large range, the underparts grade from yellow in most of its range, to red in the northernmost part.

It is found disjunctly in humid highland forests, from upper understory to mid canopy, in Mexico, Central America, the Andes from western Venezuela to northwestern Argentina, the Venezuelan Coastal Range, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the tepuis. It occurs at around 600 to 2,500 m (2,000 to 8,200 ft) above sea level.

Pairs remain together throughout year, often accompanying mixed flocks. It hops and flits about while flashing its tail to frighten insects which are then caught in aerial pursuits. It will occasionally take protein corpuscles from Cecropia plants and will occasionally glean insects from tree bark.<p>The slate-throated whitestart's call note is a sharp "pik" note. The song varies with region, although throughout most of range it is a varied series of whistled notes, some slurred up, some slurred down.<p>From April to May, pairs nest in a bulky, roofed structure with a side entrance, usually nestled in niche in bank or steep slope. The female lays 3, or sometimes 2, speckled white eggs.

Cinnamon Woodpecker
Celeus loricatus
One of several species of mostly rufous woodpeckers with a crest. On Cinnamon, look for pale off-white belly with black scaling, and uniformly rufous head and back. Sexes mostly similar; male has red mustache stripe. Mainly a forest bird, found singly or in pairs, usually at middle levels or in the canopy. Listen for series of loud breathy whistles descending in pitch, similar to several other species in this genus.
Churring Cisticola
Cisticola njombe
Relatively colorful cisticola with a rufous cap and back of the neck, and a gray back with dark streaking. There are two bands across the tip of the tail, one pale and one black. Found in open montane habitats including grassland, bracken, and marsh edge. The song consists of several consecutive “tsee-wit” couplets. As with other cisticolas, habitat and vocalizations are important to identification. Similar to Wailing Cisticola, but has a brighter rufous cap without streaking, and paler underparts.
Scissor-tailed Nightjar
Hydropsalis torquata
Boldly marked nightjar; streaked brown, gray, and buff above and barred brown below with a prominent rufous neck patch. Males have spectacular scissor-shaped tail extensions, dark on the outside, pale on the inside. Tail of females is short with no white. Fairly common in grasslands with scattered bushes and at forest edges.
