Ayacucho Antpitta
Grallaria ayacuchensis
Medium-sized antpitta found only in a small area of the eastern Andes in south central Peru, not far from the city of the same name. Plumage is rich chestnut-brown with a hint of buff on the belly. Similar to Urubamba Antpitta but lacks a pale eyering. Knowledge of geographical range and song is very helpful for ID. Gives a short whistle repeated every couple of seconds as well as a quick, descending series of throaty notes. Inhabits cloud forest at high elevations and usually stays well-hidden on the ground, though may perch higher to sing. It was described as a new species in 2020, having previously been considered a form of Chestnut Antpitta.

Rock Sparrow
Petronia petronia
Odd-looking, chunky, sparrowlike bird with a strong bill. Body is heavily streaked; most distinctive features are the dark brown crown and well-marked pale eyebrows. A yellow spot on the throat is rarely visible in the field. Found in open and rocky country from stony hillsides to villages and farmland. The call "vui" is quite memorable.

Graceful Honeyeater
Meliphaga gracilis
A small olive-gray honeyeater with a circular pale yellow cheek patch and a relatively fine bill. Can be confused with Lewin’s Honeyeater and Yellow-spotted Honeyeater, but note the shape of the cheek patch: crescent-shaped on Lewin’s Honeyeater and oval on Yellow-spotted Honeyeater. Adults also have a blue-gray eye while Lewin’s has a bluish eye and Yellow-spotted has a brown eye. Found on the Cape York Peninsula and southern New Guinea.
