White-winged Cotinga
Xipholena atropurpurea
Unmistakable cotinga. Male have black-purplish plumage with white wings. Females are gray with white edges to the wing feathers. Found in humid forest and occasionally forest edge habitats, where it is normally seen perched on the exposed branches of the canopy or feeding at fruiting trees. Gives a “chirp” call and also produces wing-whirs.

Barred Forest-Falcon
Micrastur ruficollis
Retiring and rarely seen raptor of humid forest in lowlands and foothills. Usually detected by sharp, barking call given mainly early and late in the day. Does not soar. Most likely encountered sitting quietly at middle to low levels inside the forest. Adult has orange-yellow facial skin and pale eyes. Immature is creamy below, often with some dark barring. Note the long yellow legs.

White-throated Ground Dove
Pampusana xanthonura
This dove is accurately but misleadingly-named, for the male’s whole upper body is white, not just his throat; he also has a wine-red patch on the back and upperwing. Female is dirt-brown with darker back and wings. Inhabits the Northern Mariana Islands and Yap, in the Caroline Islands. Found in both pristine and degraded forest, often near habitated areas. Forages primarily on the ground on Yap and in trees and bushes on the Marianas. Coos are deep and sonorous.

Livingstone's Turaco
Tauraco livingstonii
Spectacular, green, crested turaco. Shows large crimson wing patches in flight. Found in forest and dense woodland. Acts like a typical turaco, bouncing through the trees and flying occasionally with short bursts of wingbeats and long glides. Call is a gruff, accelerating series of “kow” notes. Similar to Schalow’s and Knysna turacos, but minimal overlap in range. Crest is shorter than that of Schalow’s Turaco and longer than that of Knysna Turaco.
