Yellow-throated Bunting
Emberiza elegans
Attractive songbird of parks, forests, and meadows. The combination of crest and yellow brow and throat unmistakable. Adult male has a black chest patch, mask, and crest combined with a yellow throat and brow. Female is similar but paler and lacks any kind of chest patch. Both sexes have brown backs and lightly marked pale bellies. Usually found in small flocks, foraging within vegetation, often on the ground.

The yellow-throated bunting (Emberiza elegans), also known as the elegant bunting, is a species of bird in the family Emberizidae. It is found in China, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, Russia, and Taiwan. Its natural habitats are temperate forests and subtropical or tropical dry forests. Emberiza elegans follows Type II chain migration. Research on isotopes from feathers has revealed that northern populations begin migration before southern populations. Additionally, a latitudinal gradient in hydrogen isotopes suggest that northern breeders spend winters further north than their southern counterparts.

Macleay's Honeyeater
Xanthotis macleayanus
Distinctive medium-sized rainforest honeyeater. Underparts are olive with white streaking. Upperparts brown with small white spots on back of neck and larger white spots on back. Black cap on top of head, gray throat. Bare patch of dull pinkish skin around the eye is surrounded by orangish feathers, with a few yellowish feathers behind that. Has a very small range in northern Queensland, where it is found in rainforests and adjacent habitats. Feeds on fruit and insects.
Stripe-necked Tody-Tyrant
Hemitriccus striaticollis
A small, relatively drab flycatcher found locally across its wide range. Primarily yellowish in plumage, brightest on the belly. Whiter throat has strong grayish stripes blending into blurrier streaks on the chest. Generally found in scrubby semi-humid habitats, and often likes viney tangles. Where overlaps with the similar Johannes’s Tody-Tyrant, note the stronger throat markings and generally brighter overall coloration.
Barred Eagle-Owl

Large horned owl with bottomless black eyes. Adults are distinctive within their range, sporting finely barred underparts, dark gray-brown wings, two long “horns” held horizontally, and a large bright yellow bill. Juveniles are milky white with faint gray bars all over the body and softer, shorter horns. Inhabits expansive forests and large parks from sea level up into the foothills. Gives deep resonant hoots, screams, and howls.
