Golden-rumped Flowerpecker
Dicaeum annae
A tiny, nondescript, short-tailed songbird with a stubby bill. Olive above and pale below, with gray-washed flanks and a white moustache in both sexes. Males show a yellow rump that is absent in females. Juveniles resemble females but are duller below, with a pale-based bill. Pairs and singles can be found high in trees in wooded areas, forest patches, and edges within the lowlands and mountains. Restricted to the Lesser Sundas. Pale moustache and all-dark undertail separate this species from Thick-billed Flowerpecker. Gives a very high-pitched descending series, “tzee-tzee-tzee-tzee-tzeer-tzeer…”, as well as a soft trilling sound.

Golden-bellied Flycatcher
Myiodynastes hemichrysus
Large and often noisy flycatcher of montane cloud forest. Yellow underparts, dark face, and white head stripes are suggestive of Great Kiskadee, but note that Golden-bellied Flycatcher has a white moustache stripe rather than a white throat; it is also found mainly at higher elevations. Birds from South America and eastern Panama have olive streaks on the breast; they were formerly considered subspecies of Golden-crowned Flycatcher. Perches at middle to upper levels of the forest, where it gives loud squeak- toy-like calls.

Indian Yellow-nosed Albatross
Thalassarche carteri
Massive seabird, but relatively small and slender for an albatross. Breeds on islands in the Southern Indian ocean from Marion and Prince Edward to Amsterdam and St. Paul. Ranges mainly at subtropical latitudes in the Indian Ocean, from South Africa to Australia, rarely to New Zealand. On adult, note soft gray cheek, typically much less extensive than hood of Atlantic Yellow-nosed. Young birds mostly white-headed with limited gray around eye; some difficult or impossible to separate from Atlantic Yellow-nosed. Bill is long, thin, and black, with yellow-orange stripe along the top ridge (culmen) on adults. Also look for thicker black leading edge on underwing to help separate from White-capped Albatross at a distance. Also compare with Gray-headed and Black-browed Albatross; note underwing pattern, bill pattern, head color.

Pitcairn Reed Warbler
Acrocephalus vaughani
A large cold-toned warbler with grayish-brown upperparts, yellowish-buff underparts, and variably white wings and tail. Irregular whitening of wings and tail give it a messy appearance. Found primarily in patches of tall forest, avoiding open areas. Voice is a harsh, scolding “chak, chak.” Does not sing.
