Norfolk Island Gerygone

One of the most common and widespread Neotropical swallows. Small and compact with notched tail. Generally dark above and white below; best field mark is black undertail coverts sharply cut off from white belly. Flocks can be seen in towns and cities, open fields, bodies of water, and over forest. Often perches on telephone wires.

Small, active warbler with diagnostic yellow face, dark collar, and orange crown. Flashes white outer tail feathers while foraging for insects. Found in montane forest and edges, often in pairs. Follows mixed feeding flocks, often moving quickly through the middle levels of the trees. Sexes alike.

A variable green-pigeon of subtropical and tropical lowland broadleaf evergreen forests. Ryukyu subspecies readily approachable, sometimes found in parks and gardens; Taiwan subspecies more timid. Ryukyu and Taiwan subspecies sometimes considered separate species, as Taiwan birds are much smaller and have a rufous cap. Similar to White-bellied Green-Pigeon, but feathers around the legs never white, face less yellowish, and white edges of undertail coverts narrower. Song a low, whistling "poo-aa-poooo", rising and trilling at end, recalling a bamboo flute.
