分布与栖息地
The great woodswallow occurs naturally in tropical moist montane forest, usually amongst clearings with dead trees, most typically dead emergents above the canopy of primary rainforest. Although the species has been known to be common ever since the first Western explorers of New Guinea, it has adapted very well to human manipulation of the landscape and is especially common near Highland towns such as Mount Hagen and Goroka. Great woodswallows are found as high as 3,000 metres (9,800 ft), but are most abundant between 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) and 2,500 metres (8,200 ft). Unlike the Australian dusky woodswallow, great woodswallows do not reduce their body temperature on cool nights.

Hazel Grouse
Tetrastes bonasia
Distinctive small grouse of dense coniferous forest, preferably with spruces. Usually very difficult to see. Spends most of its time on the ground but flushes with a distinctive wing whirr and may land high in trees. Males have a dark throat and dark tail tip, while females have a speckled white throat and shorter crest. Song of the male is surprisingly high and thin, recalling a Goldcrest.

White-rumped Vulture
Gyps bengalensis
A medium-sized vulture with a silvery bill, a dark body, a grayish shine on the wings, a white back, and a distinctive white collar on the neck. In flight, the adult appears dark with a strikingly large white slab running across the underside of the wing. The juvenile is dark brown with fine pale streaks; it has a dark collar, pale feathers on the head, a dark bill, and no white on the back or underwing. Found in open areas and around habitation.

Banded Kingfisher
Lacedo pulchella
Brilliantly colored kingfisher with a heavy crimson bill and a large puffy head. Male is bright blue with an orange face, white chin, light orange breast, and black-and-blue banded wings and tail. Female is striped like a tiger, with orange and black patterning across her entire body. Perches quietly and absolutely motionless at various levels of the forest, usually mid-height to low, where it can be difficult to detect. Inhabits lowland and hill forests. Gives away its presence with a long haunting whistle followed by a series of mellow whistles.
