Imeri Warbling-Antbird
Hypocnemis flavescens
Small antbird. Males are streaked black above, with a yellow-tinged throat and rusty flanks. Females are similar but with brownish streaks above. Inhabits the understory of both non-flooded and seasonally flooded forests, and regularly attends army-ant swarms. The song is a descending series of whistles that ends with a harsh note: “tew, tew-tzew-tzew-tur paw, paw.” The similar Guianan Warbling-Antbird has a white throat and is more streaked on the breast; the song also has a different pace. The Peruvian Warbling-Antbird has more black on the throat and breast and is less yellow below.

Yellow-bellied Flyrobin
Cryptomicroeca flaviventris
Small mostly grayish songbird with an upright posture and short bill. Note bright yellow belly and small patch of whiter feathers on the throat. Typically found low in dense growth, preferring areas of native habitat including stunted forest and edges. Pleasant song a combination of higher-pitched wheezing whistled notes and lower chiming warbles.

Caica Parrot
Pyrilia caica
Medium-sized, uncommon rainforest parrot. Combination of green body, brown collar, and black head is unique in range. Also occurs in lower-stature forests with sandy soils. Flies fast and low; usually seen rocketing past in small groups, through the forest canopy or just above it, disappearing quickly; odd, nasal calls are often heard just before such appearances. Like other parrots, forages on fruit and flowers in forest canopy.

Slaty Bristlefront
Merulaxis ater
Odd-looking terrestrial species with a long tail and a small tufty crest. Found in the understory of humid and montane forests and is rarely easy to see. Males have a dusky gray upper-body and a dark-brown lower-body, while females are all dark brown above and cinnamon below. The song is loud and startling; it begins with a variable series of “tip-tip” notes and finishes with a fast descending “dje-dje-djeeeee.”
