White-eared Brown-Dove
Phapitreron leucotis
A fairly small dove of forest and edge from the lowlands to the lower mountains. Brown above, with a gray or pinkish head, neck, and chest, bluish iridescence on the back of the neck, a pale pinkish belly, and white corners to the tail. Note the black and pale streaks under the eye and the small triangle of bare skin behind it. Similar to Amethyst Brown-Dove, but White-eared has blue on the back of the neck and white under the base of the tail. Song is an accelerating series of rising “wup” notes.
识别特征
Adult individuals have a black sub-ocular line starting from the gape to the nape (McGregor, 1909) followed by a white line from the posterior border of the eye to the nape (Carino, 2009; McGregor, 1909). In general, these birds have brown feathers but the crown is pale gray and the chin and upper throat is tawny (Baptista et al., 2017). In addition, lower breast and abdomen are slightly pale yellow which is much paler than the posterior part, the under tail-coverts are dark pearl-gray and the wings are brown with the primaries having pale edges, and the rectrices each having a wide gray band on the terminal end (McGregor, 1909). These birds are also characterized by short bills (Carino, 2009; Hachisuka, 1941), and greenish bronze collar (Carino, 2009; McGregor, 1909) or green or blue iridescence on the nape (P. Simpson, pers. Commun., September 11, 2017).

Manchurian Reed Warbler
Acrocephalus tangorum
Small, shy, and poorly understood, this reed warbler breeds in the remote marshlands of northeastern China and Russia and winters in drier, grassier habitats in Southeast Asia. Warm brown overall with a clean-cut whitish brow and throat; brow extends well behind the eye, unlike in Blunt-winged Warbler. Very similar to extralimital Paddyfield Warbler, but Paddyfield shows dark-tipped lower mandible, duller brown tones overall, and a dirtier brow stripe with a distinctive pinch just before the eye, after which it fades out; Manchurian’s brow broadens behind the eye instead. Oriental Reed Warbler much larger, with a weaker head pattern. Rambling jumbled song consists of high-pitched warbling notes and sharp clicks and rattles; more pleasant-sounding than that of Oriental Reed Warbler.
Black-billed Wood-Dove
Turtur abyssinicus
A small, pale dove with an all-black bill and purple iridescent spots on the wing. Most colorful in flight, when rufous wing patches and black bars on the back and tail are revealed. Found in a variety of savanna, woodland, and thicket habitats. Very similar to Emerald-spotted Wood-Dove, but slightly paler, especially on the head, and there is little overlap in range. Also similar to Blue-spotted Wood-Dove, but separated by the all-black bill. The song starts with a few hesitant notes, then accelerates into a long series of “boop” notes.

Oreomystis bairdi
A small, very rare Hawaiian honeycreeper of remote native forests on Kauai. Declining rapidly; found only above 4,000 feet elevation in the eastern ‘Alaka’i Plateau. Gray above and whitish below with a pink bill and a short tail. Juveniles have white spectacles. Forages by creeping on branches, rarely in foliage. Its rarely-heard song is a high, even trill and the call is a soft “squeet.” Careful observations are needed to distinguish this species from other small honeycreepers.
