Brown-capped Tyrannulet
Ornithion brunneicapillus
Tiny short-tailed flycatcher. Yellow below with white eyebrow that wraps around the forehead. No wingbars. Very similar to Yellow-bellied Tyrannulet, but note brown crown (not gray). Voice is also distinctive: a series of plaintive clear whistles descending in pitch. Found singly or in pairs, usually in the forest canopy, where it can be difficult to spot given its small size. Sometimes joins a mixed-species flock.

Chattering Kingfisher
Todiramphus tutus
A pale kingfisher with clean white underparts, neck, and forehead and a light greenish-blue cap, cheek, and upperparts. A thin dark line extends from behind the cheek around the neck. Prefers primary forest, especially around highland streams, but adaptable, occurring in a variety of habitats. Overlaps with Society Kingfisher, but differs in its white eyebrow and brighter, paler plumage. Voice is a repeated “kee-kee-kee-kee” running into a raucous chatter.

Small Blue Kingfisher
Alcedo coerulescens
Tiny sky-blue kingfisher with a snowy-white throat, belly, and facial patches. Male averages bluer than female, which has a greenish cast. Inhabits a wide range of freshwater and brackish habitats, including ponds, paddies, and mangroves. Like many other small kingfishers, hovers and hunts from a perch. Call is an extremely high-pitched metallic “tzeep!”

Pyrrhuloxia
Cardinalis sinuatus
Essentially a desert-dwelling cardinal, found in brushy areas of the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico. Shaped much like a Northern Cardinal but with a longer, thinner crest and more rounded bill shape. Plumage is mostly gray with red highlights on the face, crest, belly, wings, and tail. Bill color is usually yellowish, but grayer on immatures. Usually seen in pairs or small flocks, often visiting bird feeders. Song is similar to Northern Cardinal but higher-pitched and more piercing.
