Sanford's White-eye
Zosterops lacertosus
A distinctive white-eye, mostly dark brown above and buff below. Note the large black beady eye with a broad pale eye-ring, the long yellow bill, and the yellow legs. Most common in primary forest, less common in secondary growth. Common call is a “chip” note. Seldom heard singing.

Scaled Antpitta
Grallaria guatimalensis
A plump ball on sticks. Uncommon and elusive on forest floor in humid evergreen forest of tropical lowlands and foothills; also in humid pine-oak and fir forest of mountains in central Mexico. Moves quickly and stealthily on long legs. May be seen feeding or hopping along quiet trails and roads. Flushes with a whir of wings without calling. Note obvious pale mustache and pale rusty underparts; dark scaly markings on upperparts often hard to see.
Andean Emerald
Uranomitra franciae
Medium-sized hummingbird, fairly common in Andean cloud forest from Colombia to Peru, typically from around 800–1,800 m. Within range, unlikely to be confused given the clean white underparts with no spotting. Sexes similar except crown is blue on male, green on female. Usually seen at forest edge, clearings, and second growth. Visits feeders.
Rusty-throated Parrotbill
Suthora przewalskii
A distinctive mid-sized parrotbill with a highly restricted range; limited to a small part of central China where it inhabits mid- to high-altitude montane scrub and open forests with dense low cover, particularly bamboo stands. Dull brown with a gray head, long black eyebrow, and a dark rusty-red face and throat. Moves in small flocks and vocalizes frequently, giving jumbled high-pitched squeaks and rattly trills.
