Nicobar Scops-Owl
Otus alius
A medium-sized dark owl. Note overall brown plumage with fine streaks on the head and breast. Similar to Oriental Scops-Owl, but the Nicobar Scops-Owl is larger, browner, and less streaked, with proportionally larger bill and feet. Inhabits forested habitats in the Nicobar Islands. The call is a loud, plaintive whistle often said to be delivered in a slow series.

The Nicobar scops owl (Otus alius) is a species of owl in the family Strigidae. It is endemic to the Nicobar Islands, India, in particular Great Nicobar Island, but it may also occur on Little Nicobar island. Its natural habitat consists of tropical moist lowland forests. The IUCN has assessed this species as Near Threatened. It was originally described by Pamela C. Rasmussen in 1998. Very little is known about this species, but individuals have been reported to consume spiders, beetles, and geckos.

Spectacled Petrel
Procellaria conspicillata
Large, stocky, dark petrel. Look for the diagnostic pattern of white “spectacles” on the face. In flight, alternates slow wing beats with glides. Usually seen well offshore in relatively warm waters. Breeds only on Inaccessible Island. The closely-related White-chinned Petrel lacks the white face pattern.
South Moluccan Cicadabird

Small cuckooshrike with a restricted range, found only on the South Moluccan islands. Males are grayish. More distinctive female is grayish on the back, and buff below, with fine barring. Found in wooded habitats. Vocalizations apparently unknown. Female easily distinguished from much grayer Pale Cuckooshrike, which also has unbarred underparts.

Todirostrum maculatum
Tiny, subtly colorful flycatcher of riparian and secondary growth. Large-headed with a flat boat-shaped bill. Yellow with a gray head and fine black streaking all over. Song an even-paced series of high chip notes, usually transitioning into doubled notes, “peet, peet, peet-it, peet-it, peet-it, …”.
