Chinese Crested Tern
Thalasseus bernsteini
Critically endangered tern, long thought to breed solely on a few islands off the coast of China's Fujian province but recently noted breeding on islets off South Korea as well. Similar to Great Crested Tern (among which it nests) but smaller and paler, with darker outer primaries and dark cap that extends to the base of the orange-tipped bill. Much larger Great Crested has yellowish-green bill and white at bill base. Voice similar to Great Crested but higher in pitch.
识别特征
It is closely related to the Sandwich tern, T. sandvicensis, and the lesser crested tern, T. bengalensis. It is most similar to the former, differing only in the bill pattern, which is the reverse of the Sandwich tern's, being yellow with a black tip. From the lesser crested tern, which it overlaps in wintering distribution, it can be told by the white rump and paler grey mantle, as well as the black tip to the bill, which seen from up close also has a white point. The larger greater crested tern is also similar, differing in its stouter, all-yellow bill and darker grey mantle and rump, as well as in size.

Golden Monarch
Carterornis chrysomela
A beautiful, unique monarch, glowing golden with a bright fiery-orange head and a black throat with a white teardrop. Tail and wings black with large yellow wing panels. Found in most forested habitats up to 1400 meters of elevation. Song is a loud, rolling warble, “ditoweet duweet duweer teerteerteer.”
Gray-backed Tachuri
Polystictus superciliaris
A small rare and endemic flycatcher with a conspicuous white patch in front of the eyes and a short white eyebrow. Also note its gray crown and a brownish-gray back and cinnamon washed breast and sides. Inhabits rocky grasslands with scattered shrubs. The song is an accelerated trill “pilrup-pilrup-pilrup” and the call is a series of squeaky “eek-uk” notes.
Niceforo's Wren
Thryophilus nicefori
Endangered songbird restricted to the western slopes of the northern part of Colombia’s eastern Andes. Note the white spectacles, striped face, and barred wings and tail. Very similar to the widespread Rufous-and-white Wren, but duller brown, lacking rich chestnut tones in the plumage, and its song tends to be faster and higher in pitch. Range is also helpful for ID, since the two species have limited, if any, overlap. Skulks in the understory of dry to semi-humid forest as well as in shady coffee and cacao plantations.
