Citrine Canary-Flycatcher
Culicicapa helianthea
A small flycatcher-like bird with a bold dark eye on a plain face, a pale eye-ring, olive-green upperparts, and solid yellow underparts. Singles or pairs sit upright within understory of forest, woodland, and plantations in lowlands and mountains, often attending mixed-species flocks. Separated from Gray-headed Canary-Flycatcher by yellow chin and lack of gray head and breast. Told from Yellow-bellied Whistler by eye-ring, absence of white throat, and slimmer bill. Gives a simple high-pitched whistled song that rises and falls: “swit-soo-swit-soo.” Also gives a short, squelching “ti-rip” trill.

It is found in Sulawesi and the Philippines. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It has been observed gathering in mixed-species flocks, with species including Everett's white-eyes, black-naped monarchs, orange-bellied flowerpeckers, elegant tits, crimson sunbirds, garden sunbirds, and Negros striped babblers.

Black-throated Sparrow
Amphispiza bilineata
Evidence that not all sparrows are dull, Black-throated Sparrow is a sharp-dressed denizen of open, shrubby desert. Gray-brown overall with distinctive black-and-white face pattern, dark tail with white corners. Streakier juvenile shows a hint of adult's face pattern, especially white eyebrow. Typically found on or near the ground in pairs or small flocks. Tinkling song with short trills and chips.
Dark Batis
Batis crypta
Males have the typical batis pattern of black, white, and gray. Females have a more unusual pattern, with rufous in the wing, rufous on the throat, and a variable amount of rufous on the breast. Both sexes have orange or reddish eyes. Found at middle levels and in the canopy of forest at low and middle elevations, often in pairs. Very similar to Short-tailed Batis, but there is no known overlap in range. Males are similar to Chinspot and Pale Batises, but are distinguished by the darker eye and shorter tail. Females are distinctive. The song is variable, but is usually a long, slow series of identical low-pitched tooting notes, sometimes given along with raspy “chugaree” calls.
White-winged Swallow

Common swallow in tropical lowlands with a glossy blue-green back. Large white wing patches are easily visible in flight and on perched birds. Forked tail and gleaming white rump are also obvious in flight. Typically forages low over water. Pairs or groups frequently perch on snags in rivers and lakes.
