Yellow-headed Manakin
Chloropipo flavicapilla
Rare and local in cloud forest from around 1,200-2,400m. Unique: mostly olive with contrasting yellow crown and dull reddish eye. Paler yellowish belly. Like most manakins, quite plump with a short bill. Female similar to male but slightly duller. Found in the understory of forest, where it is rather quiet and unobtrusive. Occasionally follows mixed-species flocks.

Moustached Warbler
Acrocephalus melanopogon
Resembles Sedge Warbler, but larger with a thick and well-marked white eyebrow and throat; contrasting dark cap; rufous rump, nape, and sides; short wings; and dark legs (pale in Sedge). Found in dense reed beds, often with bulrush stands. Makes muffled "treck" calls recalling a stonechat. Scratchy, repetitive song is given from the upper half of a plant stalk; does not sing in flight.

Chestnut Quail-thrush
Cinclosoma castanotum
Heavily patterned terrestrial bird of eastern South Australia, northwestern Victoria, and western New South Wales. White eyebrow and moustache, with a deep chestnut-brown back and intricately patterned wing. Female has white belly and gray chest, male white belly, gray flanks, and black chest and throat. Note gray sides rather than warm brown sides of Cinnamon and Chestnut-breasted quail-thrushes. Usually seen walking around in areas of open mallee woodland and shrubland. Call a long, high-pitched whistled "seeeep."

Sooty Shrikethrush
Colluricincla tenebrosa
A little-known, medium-sized bird of mid-montane forest thickets. Overall deep, sooty-brown color. Perches for long periods, scanning for insects. Skulking and difficult to see. Similar to Black Pitohui, and somewhere between the color of the black male and brown female, but Sooty Shrikethrush is smaller. Similar size various species of the Little Shrike-Thrush complex, but darker and found at higher elevation. Voice is little known, but apparently gives a loud, metallic alarm call.
