Brown Hornbill
Anorrhinus austeni
As the name suggests, a brown bird with a horn (casque) on its bill. Males are more brightly marked, with a white face and light orange-brown underparts. Females are darker brown with an almost black face. Both sexes have pale bills with small casques and a patch of bare blue-gray skin around the eye (smaller and darker in females). Inhabits lowland and hill forests. Gives high-pitched, rather raptor-like screams.

It is a medium-sized hornbill, brown with white-tipped tail. The male has white cheeks and throat, pale creamy bill, and rufous-brown underparts. The female has a dark head and throat. It inhabits the deciduous and evergreen forests from lowland plains to edge of pine and oak forest in hills, but mainly in the hill forest. It feeds on fruit and small animals; its diet includes many species of fruits, together with many arthropods, also bats, snakes, lizards, snails, earthworms, and chicks and eggs of other birds. It occurs in territorial groups of 2–15.<p>It is a co-operative breeder, with a dominant breeding pair, male helpers and additional females. They nest in natural cavities or in old holes of the great slaty woodpecker. In India, the best place to see this species is the Namdapha National Park, Changlang District, Arunachal Pradesh.<p>The name commemorates the naturalist Henry Haversham Godwin-Austen.

White-rumped Vulture
Gyps bengalensis
A medium-sized vulture with a silvery bill, a dark body, a grayish shine on the wings, a white back, and a distinctive white collar on the neck. In flight, the adult appears dark with a strikingly large white slab running across the underside of the wing. The juvenile is dark brown with fine pale streaks; it has a dark collar, pale feathers on the head, a dark bill, and no white on the back or underwing. Found in open areas and around habitation.
Purple-collared Woodstar
Myrtis fanny
Small hummingbird found in dry, scrubby regions of the Andes; also in coastal deserts in Peru. Male has a glittering blue throat bordered below by purple. Female lacks this and has a rusty wash on white underparts; the extent of this rusty color varies between individuals. Also note slightly curved bill. Male performs swooping U-shaped display flights, alternately giving high-pitched twitters and low-pitched mechanical sounds while doing so. Not known to visit feeders.
Wood Thrush
Hylocichla mustelina
Boldly patterned thrush is bright rusty-brown above with black spots on the white belly. Smaller than a robin, but larger than Hermit Thrush. Sticks to wooded areas, often hopping on the ground. More often heard than seen: listen for its incredible, flute-like song. Population is declining; winters in Central America.
